What's in this collection
The Ariana dining set brings together a dining table and a matched set of chairs in a clean contemporary design. The aesthetic is unfussy: considered proportions, a finish that holds up in a room where everything else has been chosen carefully, and a chair design that sits comfortably alongside the table without competing with it. Our Ariana dining tables and Ariana dining chairs are also available separately if you'd prefer to build the combination yourself or replace one element of an existing arrangement.
The chair design is a significant part of what makes the Ariana work as a set. Contemporary dining chairs can tip into looking cheap or temporary if the proportions aren't right, and the Ariana chairs avoid that. The seat and back are designed for comfort through a proper meal rather than just for appearance, and the frame finish is chosen to work with the table as part of a coherent whole rather than an afterthought.
The Ariana dining set in your home
The Ariana is designed for contemporary interiors, and it suits them well. A recently refitted kitchen-diner, a newer build furnished with clean and modern pieces, or any room where the brief is light and considered rather than warm and traditional: these are the settings where the Ariana looks right. The design is minimal enough to sit quietly in a room that's already doing a lot, and confident enough to hold its own in a room where it's the main piece.
It works particularly well in open-plan spaces, where a dining set needs to sit comfortably within a larger room rather than occupy a defined space with four walls around it. In an open-plan layout, a set with a lot of visual weight can close the space down; a clean-lined set like the Ariana keeps the room feeling open while still looking properly furnished rather than provisional.
The rooms where the Ariana fits less naturally are those with a lot of period detail, ornate architectural features, or a warm and traditional feel throughout. In a room where a classical design like our Louis dining sets or a more characterful piece would feel at home, the Ariana's cleaner lines can feel underweight for the context. For homes that sit in transitional territory, somewhere between minimal contemporary and traditional, our Denver dining sets are worth considering alongside the Ariana, as they bring more presence to the room without committing to classical detailing.
Colour in the surrounding room plays into how the Ariana reads. Pale walls, cool neutrals, and rooms where the palette is restrained and consistent suit the Ariana's aesthetic well. The set can also hold its own in a room with a deeper or more saturated wall colour, provided the rest of the furniture is similarly clean in its approach. What works less well is a room that mixes a lot of different styles and tones without a unifying thread: the Ariana is a set that benefits from a room that knows what it's doing.
Chair upholstery is worth thinking about carefully. The Ariana chairs in fabric upholstery suit a household that uses the dining room regularly and needs the chairs to hold up to daily use without showing every mark. In a room that's being used for family meals most evenings, a darker or more textured fabric is more practical than a pale plain one. If the room is mainly for entertaining and weekend use rather than every-day family dining, the upholstery options open up. A velvet dining chair can look impressive in the right setting, but velvet marks and flattens more readily than most fabrics under daily household use, and in a busy home a more robust option tends to be the better long-term choice.
Sizes in the Ariana dining set
The Ariana is available in sizes to suit different rooms and households. 4 seater dining sets are the most common choice for a family eating together regularly and suit most standard dining rooms and kitchen-diners without the table taking over the space. 6 seater dining sets work well in a larger room or for a household that regularly has guests and wants the capacity without needing to rely on extensions or extra chairs brought in from elsewhere.
As with any dining set, the room is the starting point. Allow around 90cm of clearance between the edge of the table and the nearest wall or obstacle on all four sides, apply that to your available floor space, and the right table dimensions follow from what's left. In an open-plan room where the dining area is defined by the furniture rather than by walls, it's worth thinking about the clearance in relation to the kitchen island or the living area as well as any fixed walls. If you'd like to check a specific size against your room before ordering, get in touch and we'll work through the measurements with you.
Spreading the Cost
Finance is available on many of our dining sets, subject to status. If the set you want sits above your immediate budget, spreading the cost is worth exploring. We're happy to talk through the options at any point.
Why buy from Shawcross
We're based in Manchester and our showroom is open if you'd like to see the Ariana dining set in person before buying. Contemporary furniture can be harder to judge from product photography than more ornate designs, because the quality of a clean-lined set lives in the finish, the proportions, and the material rather than in visible detail. Seeing the Ariana in real light, sitting in the chairs, and assessing how the set reads as a whole is the most reliable way to confirm it's right for your room.
We deliver nationally across the UK, and you can contact us at any stage for guidance on sizing, room fit, or which configuration is right for your specific space.
